Urine Trouble: A Review of Renal Replacement Therapies and Medications Dosing Strategies

New Orleans, LA US
February 17, 2022

This activity will provide pharmacists, pharmacy residents, pharmacy interns, and technicians with information on how to manage medications in patients requiring CRRT. Studies regarding medication dosing in CRRT are lacking and there are currently no guidelines to recommend dose adjustments. Much of the literature surrounding this topic comprises systematic reviews of small studies and studies with minimal population sizes that utilize bootstrapping to extrapolate data on pharmacokinetics. This presentation will focus on reviewing the types of continuous renal replacement therapies available and primarily used at Ochsner Health and will review literature on most used antibiotics and antifungals in this patient population. This presentation will review some of the literature surrounding this topic and provide insight on medication dosing to better equip our clinicians to make decisions in this area.
