Treatment of Urinary Tract Infections (UTI)

The purpose of this education module is to provide an update to pharmacists on the current recommendations for urinary tract infections. This module will consist of independent study which will then be applied to interactive case studies so the concept learned can be applied to patient scenarios.

Learning Objectives
- Differentiate between signs and symptoms of uncomplicated cystitis, complicated cystitis including catheter associated urinary tract infection, and pyelonephritis
- Determine when treatment is warranted for asymptomatic bacteriuria
- Determine empiric treatment for urinary tract infections
- Identify opportunities for antimicrobial stewardship in regard to urinary tract infections
