This activity will provide in-depth education on the pharmacology and mechanism of action of ketamine as it pertains to the subtopics of pain, status asthmaticus, and alcohol withdrawal in critically ill patients. Literature supporting these indications are relatively new and thereby the audience may not be aware of the use or how to use ketamine for these indications. The current guidelines, supporting literature, recommended dosages, and clinical considerations will be discussed. By the end of this presentation, the audience will be able to understand the rationale and role for ketamine in pain, status asthmaticus, and alcohol withdrawal in critically ill patients.
