Anticoagulation Fads in VADs: Anticoagulation with Mechanical Circulatory Support
The purpose of this activity is to review the indications and anticoagulation strategies in patients who receive MCS/VADs. Despite recommendation from device manufactures, there is limited data regarding how to manage patients who cannot receive heparin or warfarin. There is new evidence regarding the use of alternative anticoagulation strategies including direct acting oral anticoagulants (DOACs) and non- antithrombotic-based strategies to avoid pump thrombosis. This presentation will address the current recommendations for anticoagulation as well as explore the new data regarding alternative strategies in patients with MCS/VADs.
