2026 Impact - T41 - Building a High-Reliability, Systemwide Model for Patient Centeredness - On Demand
Houston Methodist implemented a systemwide, interdisciplinary governance model to improve patient centeredness, a key Vizient domain reflecting communication, coordination and responsiveness. Each hospital established patient experience leadership, and patient, family and employee insights guided priorities. Three data-driven strategies — transparent governance, reliable leader rounding and standardized multidisciplinary rounds — addressed communication and coordination gaps. These interventions produced significant gains, including three- to five-point Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems improvements, reduced nursing calls, faster multidisciplinary rounds efficiency and ultimately, top 5% Vizient performance in six of seven hospitals. The model transforms common practices into a scalable, high-reliability framework that peer organizations can replicate.
