“Making America Healthy Again”: The New Vision for Health Policy in America
Over the past two decades, Congress has passed numerous healthcare bills that have redefined the landscape of access, coverage, quality and cost affecting Americans. The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) of 2010 marked a significant shift in philosophy as it pertained to access in acquiring healthcare insurance. For the first time in the history of the United States, barriers to obtaining health insurance were removed and the goal to have 93% of the U.S. population covered by 2020 was put into motion. Over the years, there have been modifications made by congress to remove the tax penalty associated with the individual mandate, and other industry-related taxes, that have questioned the economic foundation that supports access to affordable health insurance. What does the future hold for health spending/policy/equity/access and reform in the United States under the “Make America Healthy, Again” vision of the Trump Administration and modifications to health policies directed by “The One Big Beautiful Bill Act of 2025”?
