Snakes Suck but You Shouldn’t: Appropriate Management of Snake Bites
This presentation will help educate members on how to assess and manage venomous snake bites appropriately as in some areas these cases might not be frequently seen. Participants will learn about the types of venomous snakes in North America as well as the difference between a “dry” bite and an envenomization. Participants will also be able to describe general management of each type of bite.
Target Audience
This activity is intended for pharmacists.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of the activity participants should be able to:
- Identify appropriate patients to be treated with antivenom
- Describe signs and symptoms including physical, neurological, and laboratory changes
