Don’t Miss a Beat: Special Circumstances in Resuscitation

The purpose of this activity is to discuss the common causes of cardiac arrest, standard advanced cardiac life support measures and highlight new guideline updates. Secondly, this activity will focus on resuscitation of special circumstances including accidental hypothermia, anaphylaxis, pregnancy, and pulmonary embolism. We will also discuss medication related interventions and the primary literature to support these interventions.

  2. Describe the physiologic changes during pregnancy and its effects on resuscitation
  3. Compare and contrast fibrinolytic therapy options in the setting of fulminant pulmonary embolism
  4. Evaluate a patient case involving special circumstances of resuscitation and choose appropriate interventions

Pharmacy technician learning objectives

  1. Define common causes of cardiac arrest
  2. Describe the physiologic changes during pregnancy and its effects on resuscitation
  3. Recognize medications available in the code tray
