Wait Up: We Use Them? Direct Oral Anticoagulants in Obesity
The purpose of this presentation is to illustrate the safety and efficacy of DOACs in obese patients. There is uncertainty regarding the safety of DOACs in obesity. Clinicians, including pharmacists are uncertain if patients with a higher volume of distribution should use DOACs or should continue to use our older anticoagulants (e.g., warfarin). The major concern is regarding the safety of these agents, as obese patients may potentially not have a full anticoagulant effect or may have a pronounced anticoagulant effect.
