Vizient PSO Topical Safety Webinar Series - Preventing and managing unintentionally retained central line guidewires
Vizient staff will highlight the findings in reports submitted to the PSO involving retained central line guidewires. Subject matter experts from The Johns Hopkins Medicine and UW Medicine will discuss the factors that can contribute to guidewire retention or entrapment with IVC filters and strategies to prevent their occurrence and management when they do.

Learning Objectives
1. Discuss the findings from reports involving retained central line guidewires reported to Vizient Patient Safety Organization.
2. Describe factors contributing to loss or breakage of central line guidewires during insertion.
3. Discuss strategies that organizations and clinicians can implement to reduce the likelihood of retained guidewires and actions to take when loss or breakage occurs.
4. Discuss the entrapment of a central venous catheter guidewires in an inferior vena cava (IVC) filter, prevention, and techniques for dislodgement.
