Treating OUD During Pregnancy: BJC HealthCare’s CARE in Pregnancy Program

This webinar will describe one organizations approach to implementing a substance abuse treatment program for pregnant women.  The CARE (Clinic for Acceptance, Recovery and Empowerment) program offers prenatal care substance abuse treatment and extended post-partum support for pregnant women with OUD. The presentation will review the critical elements of the program, the challenges and barriers to providing prenatal OUD treatment and the holistic approach to addressing the psychosocial needs of the patients.

  1. Review the epidemiology and pathology of opioid use disorder in women's health and obstetrical care
  2. Discuss the recommendations of OUD treatment in pregnancy and postpartum, and the patient-centered approach we take in CARE
  3. Review the critical elements required in CARE in order to overcome the challenges and barriers of prenatal OUD treatment
  4. Review the holistic approach of the CARE program and discuss how the psychosocial needs of our patients are addressed.
