From Spreadsheet to Bedside: Operationalizing an essential medication list – On Demand

Participants will learn the purpose, structure, and intended use of an essential medication list and how to identify key operational strategies for implementing an EML. They will also learn to evaluate opportunities and challenges associated with integrating an essential medication list.

At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:  

1)    Describe the purpose, structure, and intended use of an essential medication list in supporting medication shortage preparedness and continuity of patient care.
2)    Identify key operational strategies (ex. medication acuity scoring) for implementing an essential medication list across pharmacy, supply chain, and clinical teams to improve inventory management and shortage mitigation efforts.
3)    Evaluate opportunities and challenges associated with integrating an essential medication list into organizational workflows, policies, and decision-making processes.
