Seizing the Moment: New Insights in Antiseizure Prophylaxis for Traumatic Brain Injury
This activity will include a review of the new guidelines posted in early 2024 by the Neurocritical Care Society on the use of prophylactic antiseizure medications in patients with moderate to severe traumatic brain injuries. This activity will include an interactive portion with review questions asked throughout the presentation to engage the audience and assess understanding of the content.

At the conclusion of this activity, pharmacists should be able to:
- Differentiate between mild and moderate-to-severe Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI)
- Review preferred antiepileptics for moderate to severe TBI
- Identify when seizure prophylaxis is indicated in moderate to severe TBI
At the conclusion of this activity, pharmacy technicians should be able to:
- Recognize the incidence and differences between mild and moderate-to-severe Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI) and their impact on medication use in seizure prophylaxis.
- Compare and contrast commonly used antiepileptic medications for seizure prophylaxis in moderate-to-severe TBI and their storage, preparation, and dispensing considerations.
