Pharmacy Law Updates in the 2024 and 2025 Regular Legislative Session and Board of Pharmacy Standards

This activity will discuss the updates in the Louisiana 2024 Regular Legislative Session and Board of Pharmacy Standards to inform pharmacists of changes to their practice. Pharmacy practice is highly regulated by regulations and standards enforced by the Louisiana Board of Pharmacy which is promulgated by the Louisiana legislation. Since the Louisiana Legislation meets and passes a majority of laws in the Regular Legislative Session, pharmacists need to stay current with the laws that may alter how they are able to practice.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, pharmacists should be able to:  

  • Describe the key steps in the Louisiana legislative process for a bill to become law and its relevance to pharmacy practice.
  • Evaluate the impact of 2024 and 2025 Louisiana legislative and Board of Pharmacy updates on pharmacist responsibilities and scope of practice.
  • Apply current Louisiana pharmacy laws and Board of Pharmacy standards to maintain compliance and reduce risk of disciplinary action.
At the conclusion of this activity, pharmacy technicians should be able to:  
  • Define the role of the Louisiana Board of Pharmacy and its authority in regulating pharmacy practice.
  • Identify and summarize key pharmacy-related laws and regulatory changes from the 2024 Louisiana Regular Legislative Session.
  • Explain how recent legislative and regulatory updates affect pharmacy technician roles and day-to-day responsibilities
