Oral Antibiotics for Complicated Infection
In this activity, learners will review the current evidence supporting oral step-down therapy for high-impact complicated infections, including infective endocarditis, osteomyelitis, and Enterobacterales bacteremia. Participants will compare commonly used oral antibiotic classes, discuss outcomes reported in key studies, and examine practical considerations such as bioavailability, tissue penetration, drug-drug interactions, and adherence risk. Using case-based discussion and evidence-informed frameworks, the session will equip participants to identify patients who may be appropriate candidates for oral therapy and to apply structured criteria to guide safe transitions from intravenous to oral antibiotics across real-world care settings.
Target Audience
- Pharmacists
- Pharmacy Technicians
- Other Healthcare Professionals
