Optimizing Event Reporting to Impact Mortality and Length of Stay
Healthcare is complex with continued opportunity for error. This spotlight will illustrate opportunities for improvement noted by an evaluation on the event reporting system within Allegheny Health Network as well as the impact of the High Reliability Culture of Safety Collaborative concepts on overall mortality and length of stay.
This activity is designed to improve the healthcare team's ability to critically assess and optimize event reporting systems by enhancing both skills and strategic thinking. Specifically, the activity will: • Strengthen skills in evaluating the structure and usability of event reporting systems, enabling team members to identify barriers and implement system-level improvements that encourage more accurate and frequent reporting of safety events. • Support strategic development by fostering a data-driven approach to process improvement, helping healthcare teams link reporting practices to key outcomes such as mortality index and length of stay. By understanding these connections, teams can develop more effective safety strategies and quality initiatives.
