Introduction to Opto-Acoustic Imaging and It’s first FDA Approved Application
Vizient is pleased to host a continuing education session led by Michael Karaz of Seno Medical, offering an in-depth introduction to Opto-Acoustic (OA) Imaging and its first FDA-approved clinical application. This session will explore the scientific rationale and foundational principles behind Opto-Acoustic Imaging, and how it integrates with ultrasound in real-world clinical practice.
Participants will gain insight into how combined ultrasound (US) and opto-acoustic features are used to calculate a lesion’s Likelihood of Malignancy (LOM), as well as the advantages of Opto-Acoustic Imaging compared to current imaging technologies. The presentation is designed to build both conceptual understanding and practical knowledge relevant to today’s imaging environment.
Target Audience
- Radiologic Technologists
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Explain the scientific rationale for Opto-Acoustic (OA) imaging and the clinical needs it addresses.
- Describe the foundational principles of OA imaging, including how optical absorption generates acoustic signals.
- Discuss how OA imaging is integrated with ultrasound (US) in clinical workflow.
- Identify key ultrasound and opto-acoustic features used in lesion characterization and summarize how these features contribute to calculating a lesion’s Likelihood of Malignancy (LOM).
- Compare OA imaging with current imaging technologies by highlighting potential advantages, limitations, and appropriate clinical use cases.
