This activity will include a review and comparison of different formulations of intravenous (IV) iron and their use in iron deficiency anemia for inpatients. This activity will include a literature review and self-assessment quiz.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, pharmacists should be able to:  

  • Discuss iron deficiency anemia pathophysiology, diagnosis, and treatment.
  • Recognize differences in formulations of IV iron.
  • Analyze current literature available on different formulations of IV iron, including side effect profiles and adverse drug reactions (ADRs).
  • Apply information to a self-assessment quiz.
