Best Practices for Managing High Cost Medications

The purpose of this webinar is to provide a brief overview for pharmacy leaders to better manage high cost medications at their respective institutions. This webinar is an overview to a 5-webinar series and was inspired by the white paper entitles “Best Practices for Managing High-Cost Medications” that was published earlier this year. We will provide an overview of core principles including formulary management, managed care, purchasing/inventory management, and revenue cycle/retrospective business review. We will expand on each principle, providing examples from practices at OSU Wexner Medical Center personal experiences from our committee team.

  1. Explain what classifies a high cost drug and national trends in drug expenditures
  2. Apply formulary management principles to management of high cost drugs
  3. Discuss optimal processes to enhance reimbursements within the managed care setting
  4. Identify appropriate strategies for inventory management
  5. Analyze best practices of revenue cycle integrity initiatives managed by pharmacy departments
  6. Recognize processes to conduct a retrospective business review on pharmacy services
