Antimicrobials: Age of Resistance
This activity will explore the advancements in the development of new antimicrobial agents targeting the growing challenges faced in infectious diseases. As antibiotic resistance continues to rise, the need for novel therapies is more urgent than ever. The activity will focus primarily on the clinical utility of new antimicrobial agents that are available for use in the United States with a brief overview of other antimicrobials coming down the pipeline in the next few years.

Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, pharmacists should be able to:
- Explain why there is a need for new antimicrobials and discuss government initiatives to help facilitate innovation.
- Recall the mechanism of action, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and other clinical pearls regarding the agents presented.
- Evaluate the potential place in therapy these new agents may have in comparison with existing standards of care.
At the conclusion of this activity, pharmacy technicians should be able to:
- Identify key concepts regarding the compounding and storage requirements of the agents presented.
