Antidotes & Alibis: Toxicology and Clues in the healthcare whodunit

Newark, DE US
February 9, 2024

This activity aims to address gaps including lack of knowledge of toxicological emergencies, and lack of experience with diagnosing. This will be done by explaining the pharmacology of poisonings, how a patient would present and how to treat. It will also coincide with a patient cause to provide a more real-world example while keeping their attention and assessing their learning. The activity will provide a platform for pharmacists to deepen their understanding of toxicological emergencies and diverse presentations of toxic exposures. By actively participating in these educational initiatives, pharmacists will not only build and reinforce crucial skills but will also be reminded of the wealth of resources available to support them. Additionally, the activity will emphasize the importance of patient assessment, focusing on recognizing nuances in clinical presentations and assessing patient backstories. This holistic approach will empower pharmacists to bridge the gap in their knowledge and competence, ensuring they are well-prepared to contribute effectively to the interdisciplinary management of toxicology cases and, ultimately, improve patient outcomes and safety in this critical area of healthcare.
