Ambient Listening: A Cinderella Story and Merging of Technology with Human Connection
This activity looks at how AI has changed healthcare. It starts with the data entry burden that EMRs brought in the 2010s, and then moves on to the pandemic-driven focus on physician burnout in 2020. It shows how ambient listening technology has changed from human scribes to AI-powered scribes. This has greatly reduced the paperwork and mental work on providers. Ochsner Health’s successful test and later use of selected technology show that it can make providers more efficient and satisfied. It can also improve Revenue Cycle Management (RCM). While there are risks with automated documentation, becoming AI-ready through investment in infrastructure, staff training and cultural changes can lead to improved provider health and patient outcomes. The future holds promising improvements in AI. AI will get better and bigger in the next 1–2 years. It’ll also be more important in predictive modeling and personalized medicine in the next 3-5 years.
