2026 Impact - W87 - Automating Item Master Requests Using Data Integration and Robotic Process Automation - On Demand
Hospitals often face inefficient item master request processes driven by manual workflows, staffing shortages and limited process visibility, resulting in duplicate items, rogue purchasing and noncatalog spend. This project focused on redesigning the item master request process through implementation of a robotic process automation (RPA)-enabled item request portal integrated with enterprise item master services, data management systems and catalog management tools. The initiative aimed to improve compliance, increase transparency, standardize data and restore user confidence in the request process. Outcomes included elimination of duplicate items; reductions in rogue and noncatalog purchasing; and standardization of United Nations Standard Products and Services Codes, contract category and Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System attributes. This session highlights a scalable model for sustainable item master governance and operational efficiency.
