2026 Impact - W76 - From Improvement to Infrastructure: Making Mortality Reduction Last - On Demand
University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Health implemented a multidisciplinary mortality improvement strategy that reduced its mortality index (O/E) from 1.09 in fiscal year (FY) 2024 to 0.70 in FY 2025, with sustained performance at 0.69 FY 2026 year to date. Building on work presented at last year’s summit, the organization shifted to optimizing and sustaining the ecosystem of improvement by embedding executive governance, service line accountability, and a Team of Teams operating model across clinical and operational domains. This session offers a practical, replicable road map to achieve and sustain mortality improvement through shared consciousness, clinician engagement and continuous learning, making it essential for leaders seeking durable outcomes beyond short-term gains.
