2026 Impact - T21 - Redesigning Hospital Operations: Data-Driven Strategies That Work - On Demand
What does it take to improve hospital operations at scale? At the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Project ELEVATE (Enhancing Learning, Efficiency, Value, Access and Team Experience) reshaped hospital medicine with capacity modeling, dedicated admitting teams and geographic cohorting — improving access, reducing emergency department (ED) boarding, and supporting both care delivery and teaching. At Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center, a multidisciplinary service line used real-time data and Lean methods to redesign discharge processes, communication and workflows — increasing capacity without adding beds. These examples show how different approaches can better align systems to meet demand, offering useful ideas to apply in your own setting.
