2026 Impact - P119 - From Stalled to Scalable: AI-Enabled Surgical Operations Improvement - On Demand
AI development tools are changing what’s possible for clinicians with domain expertise. When our surgical procedure library optimization effort stalled using standard vendor workflows, a surgeon informaticist used artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted development tools to rapidly build an internal collaboration and analytics workspace tailored to our governance needs. The workspace centralized utilization and billing data and enabled distributed subject matter experts (operating room nursing/service coordinators, surgeons/advanced practice providers, and coding experts) to review procedures, document decisions and standardize the catalog efficiently. Within months, we achieved measurable progress and unlocked downstream operational initiatives. This approach creates a repeatable internal capability that can be applied to other governance-heavy operational problems.
