PSO 2023 HRO and Safety Education Series: Redesigning work to support safe practices and critical thinking

This series of activities will discuss approaches to high reliability and developing a culture of safety to identify and prevent patient harm. Subject matter experts will share innovative strategies for developing a culture of safety, analyzing safety data to target improvements, and developing metrics to monitor and improve patient safety. Topics for the series were developed based on member feedback and requests.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand the importance of standard work in preventing harm
  • Identify the key benefits and applications of standards and standard work in relationship to prevent harm
  • Define and identify standard reliability behaviors that may be built into standard work.
  • Understand the benefits to applying human factors principles to design of standard work and patient safety interventions.
