2025 Vizient Pharmacy Network Meeting

This activity aims to equip participants with insights, strategies, and best practices in leadership, communication, technology, pharmacy practice, and pharmacy operations and finance. Participants will be encouraged to assess their own practice sites, apply these concepts, and develop actionable plans for improvement. Additionally, the activity will foster networking opportunities, enabling attendees to build meaningful connections for ongoing collaboration, experience sharing, and mentorship in implementing their action plans.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, pharmacists and pharmacy technicians should be able to: 

General Session
•    Explore emerging trends and innovations in pharmacy practice, technology, and financial management to support strategic decision-making.
•    Foster collaboration and networking to share best practices, address common challenges, and create solutions that advance pharmacy services.
•    Develop strategies to strengthen leadership effectiveness, improve operational efficiency, and drive outcomes in patient care, sustainability, and workforce development.

Operations Session
•    List reasons why biosimilars may not be optimized in Medicare insurance plans.
•    Appraise ways to promote biosimilar conversion for Accountable Care Organizations.
•    Describe the NTAP Program and explain its purpose in supporting access to innovative, high-cost therapies in the inpatient setting.
•    Discuss common challenges hospitals face in accurately capturing and billing for NTAP drugs.
•    Identify opportunities to assess the work of clinical pharmacists in the clinic setting.
•    Describe the differences between academic detailing and didactic education.
•    Identify opportunities within your organization to use academic detailing to drive desired change.
•    Understand the development and implementation process of an ambulatory infusion pump system for home-based IV therapy, designed to replicate the inpatient setting.
•    Evaluate the impact of the Home Hospital model on patient outcomes, hospital census, and revenue, and identify strategies to replicate this model in other health systems.
•    Describe two barriers to eliminating white bagging practices within Health systems. 
•    Identify three key stakeholders that should be included in efforts to eliminate white bagging within a Health system. 
•    Identify and evaluate advantages and possible risks with LLM assisted automation.
•    Choose and apply possible similar solutions to current Pharmacy health system workflows.

Clinical Session
•    Identify diversion prevention tools discussed by the presenters.
•    Describe the purpose of enrolling an employee caught diverting into a recovery program before pursuing termination.
•    Describe why implementing clinical decision support (CDS) into the electronic health record was utilized for this project.
•    Discuss how reducing opioid prescriptions on discharge can lead to cost savings.
•    Discuss how Vizient CDB Academic Medical Center Risk Model data can be used to compare outcomes between different patient cohorts outside of the Vizient CDB reporting tool for quality improvement projects. 
•    Explain the value of pharmacy technicians using a medication-focused risk score to assist providers with medication histories in terms of enhancing patient safety and reducing hospital length of stay.
•    Describe components of the Med Rec Risk Score and how it calculates in the Electronic Health Record. 
•    Describe why use of the Med Rec Risk Score is an effective method for prioritizing pharmacy technician resources for medication histories at the time of admission.
•    Summarize the clinical and administrative benefits of a pharmacist led weight loss clinic.
•    Inspire/encourage institutions to utilize pharmacist medication expertise in managing patient weight loss pharmacotherapy.
•    Identify opportunities to reduce ertapenem usage in the operating room.

RESx Session
•    Describe the characteristics of the Compass Rose Specialty Patient Management Program that enhance workflow efficiency and improve the reporting of patient care outcomes.
•    Identify measurable benefits of unilateral text messaging on workflow efficiency, staff morale, and patient experience in a pharmacy setting.
•    Identify challenges in evaluating ergonomic risk in pharmacy workflows and discuss considerations for selecting appropriate assessment tools.
•    Review current literature for use of SGLT2 inhibitors.
•    Analyze various factors to determine hospital formulary management of SGLT2 inhibitors.
•    Evaluate the inpatient use of intravenous push methocarbamol at a single-center health system.
•    Discuss the similarities in activities able to be completed by traditional acute care pharmacists and virtual pharmacy services.
•    Define the role of virtual pharmacy services within the acute care setting.
•    Discuss the process improvement and financial impact of switching from manual kit checking to a technology-based kit checking system.
•    Evaluate the future opportunities associated with this implementation.
•    Assess whether the initial prophylactic enoxaparin dosing in the high-risk cardiac surgery pediatric patient population results in sub-therapeutic anti-Xa levels.
•    Discuss the potential impact and safety of increased initial dosing of enoxaparin to prevent thrombosis associated with central venous line catheters in this patient population.

Administration Session
•    Describe the methodology used to evaluate automated dispensing cabinet utilization, inventory management, and medication accessibility across inpatient care areas.
•    Describe the process of recommending warfarin doses at the time of hospital discharge within an academic affiliated community hospital.
•    Identify areas of improvement when recommending warfarin doses at the time of discharge within an academic affiliated community hospital.
•    Describe the impact of the Compass Rose Specialty Patient Management Program on standardizing clinical documentation and improving compliance with specialty accreditation standards in specialty pharmacy workflows.
•    Discuss challenges that a Meds2Beds program has on Length of Stay (LOS).
•    Review strategies to address the Meds2Beds challenges 
•    Review outcomes of these strategies.
•    Learn how to execute a discharge lounge by incorporating a medication discharge program.
•    Describe the regulatory compliance concerns related to therapeutic duplication from multiple PRN medication orders prescribed for the same indication. 
•    Explain how natural language processing (NLP) can be used to identify and resolve duplicate PRN medication orders. 
•    Design a collaborative, pharmacist-driven system to ensure timely follow-up of pending inpatient microbiology cultures.
•    Evaluate the clinical and operational impact of post-discharge antimicrobial stewardship interventions, including safety, feasibility, and potential cost savings.
