"Effect of Virtual Simulation on Nurse Residents’ Prioritization and Delegation Skills: A Pilot” and “Seminar of Self-Care Stations to Improve Resiliency"

May 25, 2023

This year, in addition to poster presentations at the conference, excellent abstracts have been chosen to present on coordinator calls.

The NRP at KUMC participated in a pilot study with a simulation company with programming focused on prioritization and delegation. They were able to participate in simulated activities on a computer screen in a small group during seminar time. The design of the pilot had facilitators running these modules every month for about 10-15 minutes of clinical reflection time, showing that small, frequent education in small groups can be an effective way to grow prioritization and delegation skills.

The NRP team at VHC created self care stations, highlighting multiple different ways of caring for yourself. The nurses rotate through each station to try out each method and experience what methods work for them.

Target Audience

Nurses

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Verbalize results of a pilot study aimed to explore the effect of repeated group participation in low-dose, high frequency virtual screen-based simulations in small group, classroom settings on NGRNs’ patient management, prioritization, and delegation skills
  2. Describe the impact of self-care stations during the nurse residency program on nurse residents’ understanding of the importance of self care.
