Curriculum Evaluation and Resources

June 27, 2024

The Continuing Education (CE) session is specifically designed for Nurse Residency Program Coordinators and aims to enhance their knowledge and skills in developing and evaluating nurse residency program curriculum. The session will focus on providing coordinators with curricular resources and evaluation tools. First, Cynda Rushton, PhD, RN, FAAN, a renowned expert in resilience, will provide an in-depth overview of the R3 Resilient Nurses Initiative of Maryland. Participants will gain insights into the program's principles, strategies, and success stories, empowering them to implement similar initiatives in their own organizations. Dr. Rushton will lead coordinators through on of the R3’s reflective practice activities. This session will allow coordinators to apply the principles and techniques learned in the Resilient Nurses Initiative to their own nurse residency programs.

Meg Ingram, Vizient NRP Lead Programmatic Advisory and experienced curriculum evaluation specialist, will deliver a comprehensive overview of the evaluation of Vizient’s curriculum. Participants will learn about our continuous improvement process including needs assessments, data collection, analysis, and feedback mechanisms. Meg will highlight the importance of aligning curriculum updates with the overall action plan and program goals. Meg will conclude by highlighting all of the NRP curriculum materials that the Vizient team have created over the past year as part of their action plan process. These materials will enable coordinators to more effectively implement the NRP curriculum at their institutions.

Finally, Brittany Beckmann, Senior Programmatic Advisor, will provide a practical overview on conducting curriculum evaluations. Participants will learn step-by-step processes, best practices, and tools for evaluating the effectiveness and outcomes of their NRP curriculum. By the end of the session, Nurse Residency Program Coordinators will have gained valuable insights, knowledge, and practical tools to enhance their nurse residency programs.
