Antimicrobial Stewardship Program: Principles and Practices for Pharmacists

The purpose of this presentation is to provide pharmacists with background and education about core elements and components of an antimicrobial stewardship program (ASP) based on Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Infectious Disease Society of America (IDSA) recommendations. From there, the intent would be to educate pharmacists on the importance of these recommendations and how those recommendations can be incorporated into their daily practice in either decentralized or centralized pharmacist roles. Finally, there will be an opportunity to review our institutional-specific ASP and discuss the opportunities for pharmacist involvement.
