2026 Impact - T12 - Accelerating Learning and Spread for Clinical Excellence - On Demand
Sutter Health set an enterprise goal to achieve top-decile performance by aligning all 24 hospitals under a unified improvement strategy. In 2025, the organization adopted Vizient as its primary, real-time, benchmarking and performance platform, supported by a clinical excellence approach to accelerate learning and spread and enabled by standardized goals, driver diagrams, playbooks and aligned governance. Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento (SMCS) exemplifies how this system strategy was operationalized locally, translating enterprise priorities into consistent frontline behaviors through real-time analytics, integrated dashboards and standardized audit processes. This combined system-to-local model enabled SMCS to accelerate performance across multiple Vizient domains, most notably the safety domain, demonstrating that sustained improvement requires not only strong local execution but also a clear, aligned system strategy that guides, simplifies and standardizes improvement work across the enterprise.
