2026 Impact - T44 - Transforming Front-End Emergency Care With Waterfall RME - On Demand
Emergency department crowding, delayed provider evaluation and fragmented triage workflows drive poor patient experience, rising left-without-being-seen rates and avoidable safety risk. Our organization redesigned front-end emergency care using a team-based waterfall rapid medical evaluation (RME) model in which nurses and providers evaluate patients together at arrival, initiate diagnostic workups, and establish treatment plans in real time. This redesign achieved provider assignment within six minutes, reduced left without being seen from 8.47% to 0.4%, improved throughput, and increased likelihood to recommend from 48.6% to 64.4% during a 12.7% year-over-year volume increase. This session outlines the leadership, data and workflow redesign required to replicate this high-value transformation without added cost.
