John Maurer came to Vizient in 2021 with experience in Facilities Management and regulatory services since 1990. Before joining Vizient, John had physical environment responsibilities at several hospitals in Illinois and Colorado. His responsibilities included routine facilities functions, construction projects, energy reduction and efficiency initiatives, property management, and regulatory and safety programs.

John also served as a Life Safety Code Surveyor and as the Senior Engineer in the Department of Engineering at The Joint Commission, where he provided support for the Physical Environment and Emergency Management standards, faculty for educational programs, and survey activity. John served on several committees providing relevant information to the healthcare community and worked closely with the Joint Commission’s Office of Quality and Patient Safety. He served as Interim Director of Engineering in 2017. John is a Certified Healthcare Facilities Manager (CHFM), a Certified Healthcare Safety Professional (CHSP), and a Certified Life Safety Specialist-Health Care Facility Manager (CLSS-HC).

John is a current member of the Colorado Association of Healthcare Engineers & Directors (CAHED), the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), where he has served on multiple technical committees for NFPA 99, and the American Society for Healthcare Engineering (ASHE) with Senior (SASHE) status, where he served on the ASHE Advisory Board and advocacy groups. He was vice chair of the emergency management committee for the 2018 Facilities Guidelines Institute’s (FGI) Guidelines for Design and Construction of Hospitals. In addition, he is a former President of the Healthcare Engineers Society of Northern Illinois (HESNI), serving on its Board of Directors from 2008 to 2015, providing education, development, and support for facility professionals.

John received his master of business administration from Keller Graduate School of Management and a bachelor of business management from Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, IL.

John currently resides in Western Colorado.
